The Road Calls
Another day of wrecks and strife
Lay me down beside my wife
Paces from the road I keep
Tense this wire rope– need sleep
The old lady turns, I hear the page
Start a cussin’, whisperin’ rage
Kids are dreamin’ and Jesse is strewn
Upon the rug I kick his moon
Rolling by the river on County Nine
Trees are shadows, there is no time
Time is the moment and the moment on rent
There was then and then was spent
Cackle of the radio, calm of the sky
Lights flashin’ down the road, on high
Nod to the badge and those in blue
Hook and winch and raise the boom
Thinkin’ ‘bout the lucky, thinkin’ ‘bout the dead
Life is mayhem of metal and red
The road calls
And I roll
With my heart
And my soul
Feel Jesse breathin’ on my hand
Peek in the shadows upon my clan
Thank you Lord we’re here tonight,
Bless the kid who lost his light,
Slip back in beside my bride
Feel her shoulder, touch her side
Just conkin’ off when a call comes in
Another drunken fool again
I nudge old Jess, I’m out the door
Slapped by rain and wind that roars
Thunder claps and falling skies
Make my office, make my tie
Where I go Life is blinkin’
Where I go I can’t be thinkin’
Night stretches to the end of the road
Where am I headed and when back home
The road calls
And I roll
With my heart
And my soul
Up ahead a weaving car
Seems like fate has taken charge
In the blurr I see it leap
Turn and roll in one bent heap
I’m down the knoll, I’m on the car
Lit by a flash in the sky up far
Hair is splayed upon the wheel
Is she there? Can she feel?
Now a flame erupts – no good!
Don’t slip now, grab the hood!
Maybe she’s dreaming, maybe she naps
Crash the window, cut the strap
Under her arms and over my back
Force my stride to pick up slack
Lay her down on grass- not mud
The world explodes behind my head
Hey God – inside I’m cryin’
Oh God, please stop dyin’
Lord–– she’s staring at you and me
She can breathe and she can see!
The road calls
And I roll
With my heart
And my soul
I am the road
I am the Towman
I am the road
I am the Towman
Lay me down beside my wife
Paces from the road I keep
Tense this wire rope– need sleep

Mighty Malone
I throw in the loaves
Step into the van
Then Roll down the street
The same old plan
The first stop is Moseby’s
Great grub and brew
The next pull is Perry’s
Great buffalo stew
I flick on the radio
My man Malone is up
Takes a mighty swing
And the fans erupt!
Rollin’ on my route
Wonder where this will end
Then Malone’s up again
And my mind’s in a bend
John Malone, he’s got the world by the strings
He roams centerfield, takes those mighty swings
The summer air crackles with the players’ names
I’m waitin’ on deck for my chance in the game
At night I pull a wrecker
From the old wrecker lot
I gotta keep movin’
Keepin’ food in the pot
Lady’s car was steamin’
Like a pot on a stove
The world was screetchin’
Everywhere I drove
I can see him crouch
The games’s – on the line
Life is a bust–Crack!
It’s gone! We win ten to nine.
John Malone, he’s got the world by the strings
He roams centerfield, takes those mighty swings
The summer air crackles with the players’ names
Just waitin’ on deck for my chance in the game
Bottom of the ninth
Malone – take it downtown
But the game takes a turn
A truck turns on its crown
Night ‘s lit red and blue
There’s risk in the air
I secure the wire rope
At the Captain I stare
He cries, Jack you’re up!
I grab the knob like it’s Stout
Then I raise the boom
And they get the man out
Hey Malone has gone down
And the night is late
But hear the fans cheer
As I’m crossin’ home plate
John Malone, he’s got the world by the strings
He roams centerfield, takes those mighty swings
The summer air crackles with the players’ names
I’m waitin’ on deck for my chance in the game

Line In The Sand
In the early morning hours they waited for a sign
The Arab night was black as coal like in some ancient time
The tanks were in position, the missiles set to cruise
A half million young and brave with nothing left to lose
The UN resolution, negotiations failed
So headed for The Promised Land a mighty fleet did sail
To the banks of the Euphrates, the cradle Ive been told
Been fighting for five thousand years for oil, God and gold
God bless our sons and daughters
all through out the land
Line In The Sand
A suicidal Monarch, the “ Mother of All Wars”
Headed down the same path
like one thousand times before
We hope he learned his lesson, we hope he learned it well
They knelt and prayed to the Heaven and ended up in Hell
And we just waited patiently
and things went just as planned
God bless our sons and daughters
all through out the land
Line In The Sand
The television teaches the lexicon or war,
About massive spills of oil, wash despair upon the shore
But one boy in the trenches with his head up to the sky
thought about his mothers face never questioning why
He didn't know the reason but he had to take a stand
So for every Daddy’s little girl and every mother’s son
who sit and wait in terror for the next event to come
And for all the little children with dreams still full of fear
And for every missing soldier you better shed a tear
God help our sons and daughters
all through out the land

Here
Where else but this river
That runs by the rock
Where else but the coffee place
By the butcher block
The church ladies gather on the hill
Where the walls are sweet
Where else but the wind and rain
And the earth beneath my feet
Am I alone beneath this sun
Because it’s a lonely world
Or am I alone in this existence
Because alone is my girl
Should I reach out to my fellow man Or just by me abide
Stay where the space makes the room
For me to slip inside
And dream…Dream…
Get on the horse and ride with fury
To the man I’d be
Knock on the doors and rouse the wary
To rush to the roiling sea
But no matter where I ride
Or the stories in the beer
I won’t get beyond a pace or two
Than the place I know right here
Here. Here.
Here’s where I ought to be.
Home. Home.
At the fires by the lee.
Where else but the table
Where meat and talk abound
Shields the noise of invisible men
A close but distant sound
I could roam and I could travel
Where strangers escape their strife
See the ballyhooed places
That conjure illusions of life
But nowhere could I gather
A better sense of me
Than in the book with the county clerk
This home he calls my deed
Get on the horse and ride with fury
To the man I’d be
Knock on the doors and rouse the wary
Rush to the roiling sea
But no matter where I ride

Back To Atlanta
My Dad he died when he was 55,
a man that I hardly knew,so
When I was young we left the southern sun
headed north trying to start a new
Mama she worked night and day
to see us kids were clothed and fed
When we were grown and we were on our own
this is what she said,
”I’m goin’ BACK TO ATLANTA,
and sit in that southern breeze,
I’m goin’ BACK TO ATLANTA,
for some of that fine southern hospitality,
I’m goin’ BACK TO ATLANTA,
and bake in that Georgia sun,
A southern belle I’ll always be it was born inside of me,
Atlanta here I come
I wandered ‘round from town to town,
my sisters they settled in
One brother he got buried in the bottle
and the other one he got snowed in
One day when I was just hangin’ ‘round,
my older brother he said to me,
“It’s hard to know where a man should go
but now I know where I want to be,
so Im goin’ BACK TO ATLANTA,
and sit in that southern breeze,
I’m goin’ BACK TO ATLANTA,
for some of that fine southern hospitality,
I’m goin’ BACK TO ATLANTA,
and bake in that Georgia sun,
A rebel I will always be it was born inside of me,
Atlanta here I come.
Now me I’m getting older and life
sometimes gets real hard
Wanderin’ ‘round every night
with this guitar playing in these bars
I think that I might like to settle down
and raise a kid or two
Take my wife and lead a peaceful life,
that’s what I wanna do,so I’m goin’
”I’m goin’ BACK TO ATLANTA,
and sit in that southern breeze,
I’m goin’ BACK TO ATLANTA,
for some of that fine southern hospitality,

I'll Return
Out the door
Goodbye Mama
Got the call
Have to go
Keep it lit
Don’t worry
There’s so much
You don’t want to know
I’ve got to go, the captain calls
Rush to where the chaos falls
Read your story, pay no mind
I’m not going to leave you behind
You know
I’ll return
I’ll return
You’ll have me tonight
You’ll have me tonight
No flames
Raze our love
No wrecks
No earthquakes
No bolts of lightning
Raze our love
And I’m gonna do
Whatever it takes
I am dispatched with a valor
In my blood like sea in a sailor
No matter what swirls I have my fate
Don’t wait up for me should I be late
Hear me
I’ll return
I’ll return
I’ll make it back home tonight
I’ll make it back home tonight
Now listen up, Baby,
Down by the ford where we dipped
The big rock where we shivered
I chiseled these words from my lips
You can touch them there by the river
Don’t be mad
Pretty Mama
Pretty Mama
Lift your chin
Cast your smile
All around me
It never ends
Where it begins
So when I’m out there I can hold on
See it through till the darkness is gone
Be in the thick and do what I can
I’ll break through hell– hey, I’m your man
Baby,
I’ll return
I’ll return
Keep the light on for me
Baby
I’ll return
I’ll return
Run that water for me
Goodbye Mama
Got the call
Have to go
Keep it lit
Don’t worry
There’s so much
You don’t want to know

City Winery
New York, NY | 8:00PM
155 Varick St New York, NY 10013 • 212.608.0555The THE BAND Band is without a doubt the most musically satisfying tribute to The Band on the scene today. Boasting the broad versatility of five multi-instrumentalists (Gary Solomon, Jack Kraft, Vinny Nicosia, Michael Corbin, and Josh Radin) who are all strong vocalists, and a commitment to the accurate reproduction of The Band’s repertoire; this is the band to see if you want to know what it might have been like if The Band continued to tour behind their timeless classics (including “The Weight”, “The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down", and “Up On Cripple Creek”)
Mike Corbin is a musician, singer and songwriter who has spanned five decades playing with his own bands, solo, and with world acclaimed bands such as Sha Na Na and the E Street Band. He first picked up a guitar in his teens with instructions from his brother and began writing songs and singing them. He is self taught on the piano and harmonica. He has made a living over the years through an ongoing schedule of musical gigs on weekends while plying a trade as a master carpenter during the week. He steals hours in between to create and record music. Currently Mike is touring with the Spirit Ride, performing in ceremonies that pay tribute to fallen first responders.
Since 2012, Mike has been collaborating with Steve Calitri on original songs, many of which celebrate the blood, sweat and tears of the workingman and emergency first responders. Mike showcases his instrumental talents on guitar, keyboard, and harmonica, behind his gritty vocals.
Most of the songs composed by Calitri and Corbin have Corbin working the arrangments with Calitri driving the melodies. Most of the lyrics are written by Calitri. Some music, like I'll Return, was composed by Corbin for Calitri's lyrics. Says Calitri: "Our songs are true collaborations, sometimes I drive the melody, sometimes he does. Sometimes we both do."
The Road Calls album is surprising for their musical diversity and originality. The album defies convention with the nearly eight-minute rendition of Mama I Know, a bittersweet ballad; and it celebrates age and living with the spirited, Old Men Singing. The mystical Music Train draws metaphorically on song-writing, carpentry and sailing, another one of Mike’s passions. The album also features the Road Calls, a ballad about a heroic tow truck operator, and I'll Return, about first responder (fire fighter?) who leaves for work each day leaving his wife wondering if and when he'll return home.
The Carry Me Back album features several musical styles, from the jazzy Our Moon Plays to the salsa of La Dulce Vida. Their latest single releases are Bless the Spirit Riders and Bobby's Law.
